This part 1 of the Garden Research Series. However, learners can take each part in any order as they do not build on each other. No previous experience is required for this class.

In this weekly class, learners will research and discuss different plants that can be grown in a garden.

Learners can also share what they have learned about growing these plants in their own garden or what they are growing.

Each week, we will cover a different plant following the schedule below:
Week of July 29: Week 1: Tomatoes
Week of August 5: Week 2: Pepper
Week of August 12: Week 3: Zucchini
Week of August 19: Week 4: Flowers
Week 5: Herbs
Week 6: Berries/suggestions
Week 7: Melons
Week 8: Root veggie
Week 9: Greens
Week 10: Pumpkin
Week 11: Beans
Week 12: Grains/suggestion

Some of the information that learner's will learn and discuss on each plant includes:
Number of varieties that exist
Hardiness zone
Plant requirement and care
When and how to sow them?
When can they be transplanted?
Do the seed need be prepared before sowing?
Time to germination and harvest
Life cycle
Common pest or plant diseases
Uses

The discussion will be based on the learner's research and the information that they find during class.

After researching and discussing the 14 different plants, the class is going to cycle back to plant #1. Learners can download the Google Document that we work on during class to put together a mini beginner gardening encyclopedia.
