This multiday class/camp is a survey class on function families. The functions are mainly from Algebra 1 but overlap a little bit with Algebra 2. The class will begin with a sorting activity in which the students sort equations and graphs into groups. In the first class, the students will learn to identify each function by its equation and by its graph and name certain specific characteristics of each graph. This camp has several learning objectives: 1. identify linear, quadratic, absolute value, cubic, exponential, radical, and rational functions by their expressions and by their graphs 2. transform the graphs of these functions by transforming their expressions 3. apply these functions to real life situations
Hi! My name is Dr. Kerri Lookabill. I have been teaching mathematics for 30 years at both the high school and the college levels. In addition, at both of these levels, I have taught students who needed remedial lessons as well as those who were advanced. I have taught classes in general math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability & statistics, and calculus 1.
Students will need pencil, paper, graph paper, and either a graphing calculator or access to an online graphing calculator.
