An African drum would be helpful, but not necessary. Access to a computer, iPad, smartphone, tablet, or laptop would also help to access Outschool. You can purchase a new African drum for under $100 that you can receive help with. If you would want to get a really expensive African drum that would create little to no issues for you in order to maintain, it is recommended that you purchase an expensive one used. You can clean it out thoroughly before using it with a good alkaline type liquid soap (please, only liquid) such as Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps which I use personally from head to toes. It works on instruments and even with cleaning as well. You do need to dilute it depending on what you are using it for.

Optional private account set up with CD Baby that has not been vetted by Outschool. The information is not shared with the teacher. The teacher does not work for CD Baby. Actually, the teacher has audiobooks on CD Baby that have not sold for years. This does not mean that if you are interested your child or children's music would not sell. The teacher has not advertised the audiobooks much. This is just an option if with continued classes you would be interested in doing a project on original music production and selling it online even for free, or making potentially some money from the project for yourself as learners, plus your family. 
If there is interest in ongoing classes to learn a very little bit of Swahili, the teacher can help by screen sharing Ling and providing an extremely brief lesson within the time limits of the class.
