Is your learner beginning to read? If so, they need to know “sight words”, or words they should know just by looking, without making the sounds of each letter to figure it out. Most children begin learning these sight words throughout the kindergarten year.

This multi-day class will work on a different set of five or six sight words in the Dolch Primer list each week. Students should have mastered identifying most of the 26 letters of the alphabet to be successful in this class. Knowledge of the previous sight words in the pre-primer Dolch list is helpful, but not necessary. 

Every student will get a turn to SEE/ SPELL/ SAY each new word, then write it in the air or on paper or a whiteboard at home. We will then play a variety of games including Spot It (find the correct word among several on the screen), Shape Puzzles (choose the letters in the sight word to go in the matching shape according the the size of each letter), count the number of letters in each word, and reading sentences containing target sight words with picture clues!

Week 4: do, did, what, so, get
Week 5: like, this, will, yes, went
Week 6: are, now, no, came, ride
Week 7: into, good, want, too, pretty
Week 8: four, saw, well, ran, brown
Week 9: eat, who, new, must, black, white
Week 10: soon, our, eight, say, under, please
