- Through regular practice, students will enhance their reading fluency and comprehension by reading sentences and passages that incorporate new vocabulary and spelling patterns. This goal focuses on building the ability to read smoothly.
- Students will learn to recognize and apply common spelling patterns, including consonant digraphs (such as "ch" and "th"). They will practice reading and spelling words with these patterns, improving their ability to decode.
- Students will demonstrate mastery of short vowel sounds by accurately identifying, reading, and spelling words containing short vowels in isolation and within sentences.
