課堂經歷

This course is aimed at the preschool to kindergarten age group (3-6 year-olds). This is an ongoing circle time, students will get to know one another, learn social-emotional skills, language, science, and math in a fun engaging Montessori way. Each week we will focus on a different letter and theme, learn new songs, dance, read stories, and integrate art. This will be a four-day-a-week class (M-Th). This circle time will be hands-on and very engaging. I am an educator who loves to get to know my student's interests and go off of their needs/wants. This will also be an opportunity for students to socially interact with their peers and get to know one another through group discussions and games. It will be fun, inclusive, and engaging. The students do not need any prior knowledge or experience. 

Weekly Setup (Letter themes are subject to change if students have different interests)

We are currently in our summer months and are taking on our summer camp themes that also incorporate; science, math, language, art, movement, and socialization! Come join the fun! 

August
August 8th - 11th - Science Week 
We are going to have lots of fun with our science summer week! We will do four different experiments and learn the science behind the magic! 
Monday: Let’s go fishing! We are going to use ice cubes, salt, and yarn (or string) and count how many ice cubes we can fish! Supplies needed: Ice cubes, a bowl of water, salt (in a small bowl), and yarn or string 

Tuesday: Exploding moon dough. Supplies needed: oil, flour, baking soda, vinegar, pipette or spoon, small bowl or cup, spoon, and bowl for mixing. (If you want to color your dough you will also need food coloring and water)

Wednesday: Magic Milk. Supplies needed: shallow dish, milk, liquid food coloring (gel food coloring does not work as well, dish soap, q-tips, or cotton balls (Optional: if you want to make a piece of art and have watercolor paper we can imprint what has been created)

Thursday: Skittle experiment. Supplies needed: plate, warm water, skittles. 

August 15th -18th - Beach Week

As we head into the end of summer, let’s have a fun beach-themed week! We will combine science, art, language, and math within this week’s lessons. 

Monday: Let’s learn about our -ch and -sh digraphs. Supplies needed: paper and writing utensils.

Tuesday: Fingerprint math. Supplies needed: paper, paint, coloring materials, and a writing utensil. 

Wednesday: Making Sand Castles! Sand Castle processed art. Supplies needed: paper, liquid glue, coloring materials, use salt or sand, food coloring, paint brushes, and water.

Thursday: Ice cream party! One of the favorite treats on a Long Beach day. Let’s make some ice cream. Supplies needed: 2 ziplock bags, ice, cream, vanilla extract, salt (ice cream salt or iodized salt will work), Optional add toppings, and chocolate! 

August 22nd-26th - Little Engineers -- Let's Build!!!
Let's become little engineers and build this week. We are going to get creative and have a blast creating new things. WE are going to socialize and bounce ideas off of one another on how to build and create new things while also discussing language and math! It is the ultimate STEM week.

Monday: Paper plate or cup tower challenge. This project can be done in different ways, so choose what you have at home (they both have the same concept, and either will work great!) 

Option 1: Paper Plate Tower
Supplies needed: 
Paper plates
paper towel/toilet paper rolls (you will need multiple, but the perk of toilet paper and paper towel rolls is you can always cut them to make more :))

Option 2: 
Plastic/paper cups (lightweight cups)
popsicle sticks (thicker popsicle sticks work best) 

Tuesday: Building a parachute. Supplies needed: scissors, plastic bag, yarn or string, ruler (if you want exact measurements), pen/pencil/or plastic toy to attach at the bottom.  

Wednesday: Maze day! Supplies needed: paper plate, paper, tape, scissors, plastic straws or toilet paper roll, and marble or pom pom or small ball. 

Thursday: Build a boat! Supplies needed: a bowl of water, plastic straws, tape, pennies, and scissors.



Happy New School Year!! I am so excited about the year's themes, and we will have so much fun! Every week I will send a newsletter with the supplies and itinerary for the week, along with the printouts! 

Week 1 (August 29th-September 1st): Get to Know Each other!
The first week will be getting to know one another and learning our songs, and doing a few different activities regarding writing and math! It will be a fun week filled with music, songs, socializing, and activities! 

Week 2 (Sept. 6th-8th): No Class Monday due to observation of Labor Day
Letter Aa - Apples (parts of an apple, apple stamping (art), tasting all apples, and graphing what we like best (red, yellow, or green)

Week 3: (Sept. 12th-15th) 
Continue letter Aa and apple theme

Week 4 (Sept. 19th-22nd): Letter Bb - Butterflies (life cycle of a butterfly, learning the different types, creating an art project)
Week 3 (Sept. 26th-29th): Letter Cc - Clocks, Telling Time (reading, art, learning sounds, math)
Week 4 (Oct. 3rd-6th): Letter Dd - Dinosaur (learning about different types of dinosaurs, fossils, etc.)
Week 5 (Oct. 11th-13th): No class Monday Observing Indigenous People's Day.
Letter Ee - Emotions (SEL) (reading, storytelling, art)

Week 6 (Oct. 17th-20th): Emotions (SEL) Theme Continued  

Week 7 (Oct 24th-27th) Letter Ff - Fall and Firefighter (what firefighters do, what they need, fire safety lessons, signs of fall, leaf man)
Week 8 (Oct 31st-Nov. 3rd): Halloween activity Monday then the theme of the week will be Letter Gg - Giraffes (math, science, and language games)
Week 8 (Nov. 7th-10th): Letter Hh - Human Body (Learning about the functions of a human body) 
Week 9 (Nov. 14th-17th): Continue Human Body theme 

Week 10 (Nov. 21st- 23rd): Pause from letter study and have a thanksgiving themed week! Learn about why we celebrate and do thankful activities.

Week 11 (Nov. 28th-Dec. 1st): Letter Ii - Ice cream (discussing different ice cream, science experiment: making ice cream, math work)
Week 12 (Dec. 5-8th): Letter Jj - Jellyfish (parts of a jellyfish, discussing ocean, art activity)
Week 13 (Dec. 12th-15th): Letter Kk - Kangaroos (parts of a kangaroo, learning about Australia, kangaroo art project)
Week 14 (Dec. 19th-22nd): Letter Ll - Lions (learning about Lions, learning about Africa and Asia (their habitats), art project)

HOLIDAY BREAK from December 26th-January 2nd!

Week 15 (January 2nd-5th): Letter Mm - Maracas (making our own maraca, learning about the musical instrument, making our own song together)
Week 16 (Jan. 9th-12th): Letter Nn - Night (Discuss nocturnal animals and why there's night)
Week 17 (Jan. 17th-19th): NO class Monday due to MLK Jr. 
Theme Letter Oo - Ocean 
Week 18 (Jan. 23rd-26th): Continue the Ocean theme  
Week 19 (Jan. 30th-Feb. 1st): Letter Pp - Pajama and Pizza activities 
Week 20 (Feb. 6th-9th): Letter Qq - Questions (talk about questions, what questions do students have, etc.)
Week 21 (Feb. 13th-16th): Letter Rr - Rainbow (what makes a rainbow, science experiments, art integration)
Week 22 (Feb. 20th-23rd): Letter Ss - Solar System (let's talk about planets!)
Week 23 (Feb. 27th-Mar. 2nd): Continue Solar System
Week 24 (Mar. 6th-9th): Letter Tt -Teeth (hygiene lessons, art activities)
Week 25 (Mar. 13th-16th): Letter Uu - Up (learn about things that go up)
Week 26 (Mar. 20th-23rd): Letter Vv - Vegetables (Learn about different veggies and their importance for us to eat)
Week 27 (Mar. 27-30th): Letter Ww- Water Cycle 
Week 28 (April 3rd-6th): Letter Xx - X-ray (continue learning about the human body and the skeleton)
Week 29 (April 10th-13th): Letter Yy - Yoga 
Week 30 (April 17th-20th): Letter Zz - Zoo  
After the Alphabet is complete, we will get into monthly themes!
