課堂經歷
In this 13-week flex schedule class, there will be no set time for meeting. Each week students will be given a weekly reading challenge via e-book, video with multi-media presentation, discussion questions, challenge activities and supplemental video links designed to enrich their study of the World Geography. My background includes an AS in History (SOCIAL SCIENCEs), a BS in Elementary and Special Education, and Teacher’s Licensure for K-8 in Virginia. My under-graduate studies included a study of Islam in its varying degrees of worship as well as Middle Eastern History. Subsequently, my post-graduate study and additional training has been in cultural diversity and its subsequent effects on the classroom and communities around the world. After having lived in the Middle East for several months, I have experienced first hand the conflict of religious belief/ worship and the political controversy which define stateless nations and their ongoing challenges.
Teaching human geography includes presenting historical context in an age- appropriate manner, acknowledging and presenting multiple perspectives. When we address these issues, I will follow-up with parental notification/ communication of the student’s concerns about any sensitive subjects which are identified as parental guidance issues-ie. imperialism/ land theft, war, ethnic cleansing/ genocide, discrimination, and disease.
