課堂經歷

Experience all of Mrs. Denney's popular and highly rated Fast Pass to Reading to Music program in one exciting course at a discounted price. Check out the reviews on the 4x per Week version of this course!

Learning to read music might seem hard but this class makes it as fun as going to Walt Disney World! In this multi-day class we will take virtual field trips to each of the Walt Disney World parks where we will learn the basics of reading music notation. No music knowledge required! Learners should be comfortable with basic addition problems (1+1, 1+2, etc.) and letters before taking this class.

Day 1 - Level One: Magic Kingdom
After a quick introduction to beginning rhythmic notation students will earn "Fast Passes" to virtually ride their favorite rides by reading and performing rhythms. This interactive class will involve movement, call and response, and even some Disney trivia sprinkled throughout.

We'll begin our class by practicing steady beat as we march down Main Street, USA. At Cinderella’s Castle we’ll learn the rhythms we need to know to earn our Fast Passes. From there, we will travel to each of the 6 lands of the Magic Kingdom to practice reading and performing rhythms. Then, it's time to ride the rides! Each student will get to pick a rhythm to try for a Fast Pass to take a virtual spin on the ride of their choice. At the end of class, each student will be sent a virtual celebration button for completing this level and a Practice Guide PDF (see below).

Musical concepts covered in this level include:
- steady beat
- rhythm
- sound vs. silence
- rhythm syllables ("ta" & "ti-ti")
- quarter rests
- quarter notes
- eighth notes

BONUS MATERIAL: After the level is complete, learners will receive a Practice Guide packet to help them practice and remember what they learned. This Practice Guide is meant to serve as a supplement (not homework!) and includes answer keys to check for understanding.

Day 2 - Level Two: Animal Kingdom (1)

We'll begin our class by reviewing Level 1 rhythms in an exciting animal investigation on Discovery Island. From there, we will travel to another planet to play rhythms in a Pandora Play Along. Finally, in Africa we will learn to read half notes and half rests before going on a Rhythm Safari!

Day 3 - Level Two: Animal Kingdom (2)

Our class will start back on Discovery Island where we will be introduced to the concept of tempo and learn about a musical masterpiece featuring animals. Then, in DinoLand we will practice moving with the dinosaurs to the half note pulse. To complete the course, students will learn about time signatures in Asia and then use that knowledge to earn a Fast Pass to virtually ride Expedition Everest! At the end of class, each student will be sent a virtual celebration button for completing the level and a Practice Guide PDF (see below).

Musical concepts introduced in this level include:
- bar lines & measures
- half notes
- half rests
- tempo
- time signature

BONUS MATERIAL: After completing this level, learners will receive a new Practice Guide packet to help them practice and remember what they learned. This Practice Guide is meant to serve as a supplement (not homework!) and includes answer keys to check for understanding.

Day 4 - Level Three: Hollywood Studios (1)

We'll begin our class by reviewing Level 1 and 2 rhythms before attending a new note "premiere". Next, we will learn and practice our fastest rhythm yet at Disney World's fastest ride. Finally, we will learn to read pitches on the treble clef staff at one of Disney World's tallest rides!

Day 5 - Level Three: Hollywood Studios (2)

Our class will begin by learning one more new note in a "sweet" way. Then, learners will shrink down to the size of a toy and play a game naming rhythms to earn a Fast Pass to virtually ride Slinky Dog Dash! To complete the course, students will head to a galaxy far, far away and use their knowledge of notes on the treble clef staff to earn a Fast Pass to virtually ride Rise of the Resistance! At the end of class, each student will be sent a virtual celebration button for completing this level and a Practice Guide PDF (see below).

Musical concepts introduced in this level include:
- dotted half notes
- sixteenth notes
- whole notes & whole rests
- staff
- treble clef
- lines & spaces (note names)

BONUS MATERIAL: After completing this level, learners will receive a new Practice Guide packet to help them practice and remember what they learned. This Practice Guide is meant to serve as a supplement (not homework!) and includes answer keys to check for understanding.

Day 6 - Level Four: Epcot (1)

We'll begin our class by reviewing the treble clef staff and pitches in the Future World area of Epcot. We'll then deepen our understanding of melodic reading while exploring space, land, and sea. We'll end day one by "riding" the perfect ride to help learners understand the concept of accelerando!

Day 7 - Level Four: Epcot (2)

Our next day of class will begin our journey around the world in Epcot's World Showcase area. Learners will participate in a scavenger hunt around the world, learn and practice new rhythms, and "ride" an attraction at one of our global stops.

Day 8 - Level Four: Epcot (3)

During our final day of class learners will complete our international scavenger hunt, learn more new rhythms, and be rewarded with a "sneak peak" of a brand new ride coming to Epcot! At the end of class, each student will be sent a final virtual celebration button for completing this level and a Practice Guide PDF (see below).

Musical concepts introduced in this level include:
- Syncopation
- Eighth Rests
- Triplets
- Dotted Quarter Notes
- Eighth/Sixteenth Note Combinations
- Scale
- Ledger Lines
- Sharps & Flats
- Accelerando/Ritardando
- Meter

BONUS MATERIAL: After completing this level, learners will receive a final Practice Guide packet to help them practice and remember what they learned. This Practice Guide is meant to serve as a supplement (not homework!) and includes answer keys to check for understanding.

I look forward to having a magical musical adventure with your learner!

Hi there, parents and learners! My name is Lindsay Denney and I have been an elementary school music teacher for the last 10 years. During that time I also taught both middle school and high school students in concert band and marching band settings. I hold a State Certification in Music K-12 as well as a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with an Instrumental Music Focus.

I will offer a variety of music classes on topics ranging from reading music notation to specific instruments (recorder, ukulele, etc) as well as general music instruction by grade level. I love to create themed lessons and units that make music more accessible to learners. I also plan to incorporate additional fun classes to focus on other passions of mine in which I am well versed and experienced.

It is my philosophy that music is for everyone and every person should have the opportunity to participate in music in some way. It is also widely known that music can benefit students across the curriculum:
- Math: Music is rhythm based on the division of time into fractions.
- Language: Music is a universal language that also requires learning words in Italian, French, and German.
- History: Music has been present since the beginning of mankind and is tightly woven into the history of civilization.
- Reading: Reading music requires many of the same skills necessary to read books and maintain literacy.
- Science: Music involves the study of acoustics, sound waves, and frequencies created by voices and instruments.

I love all things music related as well as reading, Disney, and playing with my 1 year old daughter!
