This is a one time course that will analyze primary and secondary sources about the fashion, hair, and makeup styles of flappers in the 1920s. We will look at pictures, watch videos, and read short stories about the Roaring Twenties. We will also be discussing speakeasies during the Prohibition Era, so there will be minor discussion of alcohol (very minimal!). In class, we will use the chat box for discussion, or the student may use the raised hand option to answer when a question is presented. We will also be using Nearpod, a platform where students can use a collaborative board, polls, reading comprehesion questions, open ended questions, and review games.

Above is a link that provides writing written in March 2023 about flappers (secondary source). The article includes examples of types of dress, hairstyle, makeup, as well as why traditional women viewed them as controversial. Photos in the article also serve as primary sources.

Above in a link that provides information of the fashion of the era before the 1920s. Late Victorian fashion varied greatly (long skirts, high necklines) from flappers and women of this era generally opposed the flapper fashion and lifestyle. We will compare and contrast these styles and why women of the Victorian Era may have opposed the flapper life. Photos are serving as primary source and writing (written in August 2020) will serve as the secondary sources.
