This class is designed to guide learners through the process of writing an Opinion Essay with a licensed, experienced elementary teacher. 📝 Session #1: Introduction to Debate and Opinion Formation -Read a debate on a specific topic. -Choose a side and form a clear opinion on the issue. 📝Session #2: Structuring the Five-Paragraph Essay -Learn the basic structure of a 5-paragraph essay: introduction, three body paragraphs, and conclusion. -Understand the purpose of each section. -Begin crafting the introduction. 📝Session #3: Crafting the Introduction -Write an engaging hook to grab the reader’s attention. -Create a clear thesis statement that reflects your opinion. -Include reasons supporting your viewpoint in the introduction. 📝Session #4: Writing the Body Paragraphs -Structure each body paragraph around one reason supporting your opinion. -Provide strong evidence and examples for each reason. -Add elaboration sentences to deepen your argument. Session #5: Developing the Conclusion -Summarize the key points from the body paragraphs. -Restate the thesis and reasons in a new way. -End with a final thought or a call to action. 📝Session #6: Refining Your Essay (Vocabulary, Transitions, and Editing) -Learn to incorporate academic vocabulary to strengthen your argument. -Use transition words and phrases to ensure smooth flow between ideas. -Focus on grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. -Review techniques for proofreading and self-editing. Outcome: By the end of the course, learners will be able to write a clear, well-structured opinion essay on a debatable topic, using strong reasons, evidence, and appropriate academic language. Class Structure: 👩🏻🏫 Each class will begin with a mini-lesson that teaches the specific skill for the day, such as writing an introduction, developing body paragraphs, or using transition words. ✍🏻 After the mini-lesson, learners will have time to work independently on their essays. During this time, the teacher will confer with students individually, providing personalized support and feedback. 🎤At the end of class, learners can share their paragraphs with teacher and other learners.

Welcome to my online classroom! I am Ms. Webster and I am so excited to provide engaging, fun, and interactive lessons for each learner that takes my class on Outschool. I am eager to provide an opportunity and assist learners in being successful inside and outside the classroom!
I have been teaching elementary school for eight years. My first year included tutoring reading and math to students in kindergarten up to sixth grade. My other years have been in the general education classroom where I have taught language arts, science, and social studies to fourth and fifth grade students. I have a bachelor’s degree in Family Studies and a master’s degree in Elementary Education, as well as a teaching license in Early Childhood Education. In addition, I completed over 100 hours in a reading summer camp to achieve my Reading Endorsement K-12. I am licensed to teach preschool-fifth grade in all subject areas. Throughout my years of teaching, I have been rated “accomplished,” which is the highest rating through Ohio’s Teacher Evaluation System. In addition, in the past, I have held the title for my grade level on our schools Building Leadership Team, as well as being a part of the districts Learning Leaders.
