In this class, students will learn everything 5th grade. Classes will be held Monday-Friday each week with chances for individual help with Miss Erika before or after each class. Students will be able to work with the same group of students and teachers throughout 2024-2025 school year. 

In this full class, students will receive all the necessary tools to be successful in fifth grade. This class will cover everything in fifth grade, such as Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. My goal is to ensure that learning is fun and successful for every learner enrolled. We will have to learn their music, dancing, and chanting. 

All class materials will be provided to students through the Outschool platform. Students are expected to have all materials in class as it is essential to learning. 

We will read reading materials during our class visits. All reading materials will be on-grade level. 

Reading and Writing will cover the following:
-Phonics
- Reading (different types of stories along with chapter books)
-Theme
- Spelling (each week students will receive a new set of words each week)
- Writing
- Grammar and punctuation
- Literature
- Poetry 

Math will cover the following: 
-MODULE 1 - PLACE VALUE AND DECIMAL FRACTIONS
-MODULE 2 - MULTI-DIGIT WHOLE NUMBER AND DECIMAL FRACTION OPERATIONS
-MODULE 3 - ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF FRACTIONS
-MODULE 4 - MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION OF FRACTIONS AND DECIMAL FRACTIONS
-MODULE 5 - ADDITION AND MULTIPLICATION WITH VOLUME AND AREA
-MODULE 6 - PROBLEM SOLVING WITH THE COORDINATE PLANE


Social Studies covers the following: 
-Analyze the reasons behind events, make connections, and compare.

Science covers the following: 
-Understand the movement of matter among producers, consumers, and decomposers in an ecosystem
-Knowledge of the different changes of state, chemical reactions, solutions and mixtures
-Identify solutions that help reduce negative impact on the Earth

Week 1 - Week 2: Welcome Weeks

Creative Writing: Getting to know each other, writing for understanding, parts of speech, similes and metaphors, punctuation, double negatives, and spelling rules. Formulate multiple paragraph pieces focused on a specific purpose or audience.
English/Reading: Use knowledge of root words to determine the meaning of unknown words within a passage.
Math: Place Value, Rounding, and Algorithms for Addition and Subtraction
Social Studies: State government (students will learn based on their own state of residence)
Week 3 - Week 4:

Writing: Grammar usage, writing original compositions applying grammar and mechanics, writing various pieces (chronological, cause and effect, personal experience).
English/Reading: Distinguish and interpret words with multiple meanings, define figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification).
Math: Unit Conversions and Problem Solving with Metric Measurement
Social Studies: Communities: What makes a community a community? What is a citizen? How can we be good citizens in our country? What is culture and how does culture shape the world we live in?
Week 5 - Week 6:

Writing: Writing narratives, focusing on the structure of a story.
English/Reading: Analyze characters, settings, and plot in different types of stories.
Math: Addition and Subtraction of Fractions
Science: Introduction to ecosystems, producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Week 7 - Week 8:

Writing: Developing expository essays.
English/Reading: Understanding themes in literature.
Math: Multiplication and Division of Fractions
Social Studies: Early American history and its impact on modern society.
Week 9 - Week 10:

Writing: Crafting persuasive essays.
English/Reading: Analyzing poetry and figurative language.
Math: Decimal Fractions
Science: Changes of state and chemical reactions.
Week 11 - Week 12:

Writing: Writing reports and research papers.
English/Reading: Comparing and contrasting different texts.
Math: Volume and Area
Social Studies: Exploration and colonization of America.

Throughout the year, students will engage in music, dancing, and chanting activities to make learning interactive and enjoyable. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and engaging educational experience for every student.
