As part of our weekly knitting class, students will have the delightful task of completing a knitted square that allows them to practice and reinforce the specific stitch technique introduced in class that day. This engaging homework assignment not only helps them solidify their grasp of the stitch but also provides an opportunity to showcase their progress and creativity through their own unique square designs.
評估
Knitters will be assessed through informal assessment methods, such as observation of their progress, participation in class activities, and their ability to demonstrate the newly learned stitch techniques. In additional, if necessary or requested by parents, a written report summarizing their growth and achievements can be provided. Please note that upon request, a grade can be assigned to provide a measure of their progress, ensuring transparency and accountability in their learning.

Join an exciting knitting journey where young crafters aged 8 to 12 will expand their knitting skills, one stitch at a time. In this ongoing weekly class, we will explore various knit stitches that can be incorporated into a beautiful blanket or other knitting projects of your choice.  Whether you're a beginner or have already mastered the basics, this class is designed to enhance your knitting repertoire and ignite your creativity. 

Prerequisites:
Students should have a basic understanding of casting on, binding off, and completing the knit stitch and purl stitch. This class is open to knitters aged 8 to 13 who are eager to explore new stitches and techniques. 

Class Format: 
The class will meet once a week for 55 minutes, providing ample time for instruction, practice, and creative exploration. Each session will focus on a specific stitch, introducing its unique characteristics, applications, and variations. Students will receive step-by-step guidance, demonstrations, and hands-on practice to master each stitch. 

08/01/2023 Week 1: Garter Stitch - Building on the Knit and purl stitches, we will create a simple garter stitch block.
08/08/2023 Week 2: Stockinette Stitch - Explore classic stockinette stitch, alternating between knit and purl rows to create smooth and textured fabric. 
08/15/2023 Week 3: Ribbing Stitch - Learn how to knit ribbing, perfect for creating cuffs, hems, and texture in your projects.
08/22/2023 Week 4: Seed Stitch - Discover the seed stitch a versatile pattern that adds texture and interest to your knitting. 
08/29/2023 Week 5: Basketweave Stitch - Dive into the basketweave stitch, which combines alternating blocks of knit and purl stitches to create a woven effect.

12/12/2023 Week 20: Slip Stich Loop - Experiment with slip stitches to create loops and texture in your knitting projects. 
12/19/2023 Week 21: Tweed Stitch - Discover a stitch pattern that mimics the appearance of traditional tweed fabric, adding a rustic and textured look to your knitting. 


As the class progresses, the knitting curriculum will expand to include an exciting array of additional stitch designs. Knitters will have the opportunity to explore and master a variety of captivating stitch patterns, allowing them to expand their knitting repertoire and create even more intricate and beautiful projects. With each new stitch design introduced, the class continues to spark creativity, foster skill development, and inspire a lifelong love for the art of knitting. 

Knitters will have the option to keep a knitting journal that will severe as a valuable tool for documenting their progress, recording important details, and serving as a reference guide for future projects. It will allow knitters to track their learning journey, experiment with different stitches, and preserve their creative work. 

Each entry in the knitting journal will include the following information: Stitch design, the yarn used/ sample of yarn used, knitting needles used, additional supplies needed, and an illustration or knitter square of stitch design. Additionally, knitters may include personal notes, observations, or modifications they made to the stitch design. This can help them to track their progress, troubleshoot any issues, and explore variations or adaptations. By maintaining a knitting journal, students create a personalized resource that reflects their growth as knitters. It becomes a treasure trove of stitch patterns, yarn choices, and creative experiments, providing inspiration and guidance for future projects.

I am a highly skilled and experienced teacher with 20 years of knitting expertise. I have extensive knowledge and mastery of various knitting techniques. I hold certifications from the Craft Yarn Council as a Level 2 Certified Knitting Instructor and a Certified Master Knitter. 

I embrace the principles of the Waldorf educational style, creating a nurturing and holistic learning environment for young crafters. With a focus on hands-on learning, natural materials, and artistic expression. I try to incorporate Waldorf- inspired elements into the knitting curriculum. Fostering a sense of connection with the materials, promoting fine motor skills, expanding math skills, and encouraging patience and perseverance. This helps provide a well-rounded and enriching experience for the learners, aligning with the Waldorf educational approach.
