In this class, students will read excerpts of famous writers to discover their own voice and writing style. During class, students participate in writing exercises designed to hone their creative writing skills. During the weeks, each student will write four major works: a short poetry book; a short story; a creative non-fiction narrative essay or memoir; and a newspaper-style feature. I offer 30-plus years of experience as a published author and newspaper journalist.
Students will need to purchase a writing journal this can be as simple as a one subject notebook or something more personal like a record journal. They will need access to word processing software such as Microsoft Word or GoogleDocs.
When reading award-winning writing, some mature content may be included. I will endeavor to ensure that no content is suggestive or includes excessive bad language.
