課堂經歷
This course is designed to give students who are interested in learning Korean, a taste of the basics for learning the Korean language before committing to a longer course of study. There is no required prerequisite except an interest in learning Korean! Please be aware that this course does ask students to spend time studying what they learn in class in order to progress and be able to fully participate in class. Students are required to interact verbally and visually, if possible, with the other students and the instructor to answer questions and more effectively practice speaking, reading and pronunciation-please contact the instructor prior to the course if you need accommodation. Information will be provided via short lectures and discussion, powerpoint, worksheets, audio, in-class quizzes, online Hangul learning site-chrome Ruffle extension required to use. This class uses Jamboard and requires all students to have a google account and screen-sharable device in order to fully use Jamboard and participate in class. Day 1: Students will be introduced to Hangul and specifically the basic Korean vowel sounds and how to write them. They will also learn about the history of the creation and purpose of Hangul. Day 2: Students will be introduced to the complex Korean vowel sounds and how to write them. They will also review the basic Korean vowel sounds as part of learning how to build the complex Korean vowel sounds. Day 3: Students will be introduced to the basic Korean (aspirated and un-aspirated) consonant sounds and how to write them. Knowledge of the vowels will be key as students will learn how they combine with the consonants in both writing and pronunciation. Day 4: The focus of this class will be the tensed Korean consonant sounds and how to write them. They will also review the previous day's Korean consonant sounds through reading and practice and contrast them with the tensed sounds. Vowels will continue to be used to practice in conjunction with the consonants. Day 5: Students will be taught how to build and read syllable blocks -the key element in word creation-and will learn a section of the Korean language pronunciation rules and utilize them through out-loud reading practice. Day 6: This class builds on the material of the previous day as students will review and continue to practice building and reading words. They will also learn the remaining Korean language pronunciation rules. Students will also practice their pronunciation, speaking skills, and listening comprehension of words, as well as individual vowel and consonant sounds.
學習目標
By the end of the course students' Korean pronunciation as well as Hangul reading and writing skills will demonstrate beginner level accuracy.

In order to have access to resources to further study Korean language and vocabulary students will need to be able to access the Learning Hangul Site. To use it (as they both use Flash) the extension known as Ruffle will need to be installed-this can be installed as a browser extension or desktop. The Learning Hangul Site was created by my Korean professor Lee Hyo Sang at Indiana University Bloomington and are used as part of Korean instruction at the university. Ruffle was created by professional developers in order to allow people to still access sites using Flash that were unable to be converted into HTML5 due to financial or other constraints. All of these resources are safe and appropriate to use and Parents are welcome to explore the resources along with their learners.
供應清單
Multi page handouts will be provided digitally-it will be students/parents' responsibility to print them/make them accessible prior to each class. Pencil or pen. Ruffle extension to use the Hangul Dictionary

I majored in East Asian Languages and Cultures (Concentration: Korea) at Indiana University Bloomington. I spent a total of 3 years in immersive Korean language study including a study abroad semester at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. While at Indiana University I received the Uehara Prize for Excellence in East Asian Studies as well as the Society of Friends of Korean Studies Fellowship. Post graduation I lived and worked in Korea for 2.5 years where I was able to immerse myself culturally and linguistically. I have been teaching Korean at the TN Language Center since July 2019.
I have worked in Montessori classrooms as well as more traditional classrooms working with young children as well as teens. I bring my TEFL training as well as my experience teaching English as a foreign language to all my language classes. Additionally, having been a foreign language student myself I know the challenges that many learners face in acquiring a new language and seek to make new concepts-grammar, vocab, phonics-as accessible and as comprehensible as possible through various means-media, powerpoint, activities, drills-by whatever means possible! I love learning new things everyday and hope that my classes would pass along not only knowledge but the attitude that knowledge and learning are valuable and exciting!
