每週 1-2 小時. During the first class, I will introduce our culminating project. I expect students to work on the project intermittently throughout the course of the class. I am also available to answer students' questions at any point outside of the listed class time. Students might spend anywhere from one to three hours working on their project.
評估
I will assess the learners at the end of the three-week course. My assessment will consist of an overall score on the project guided by a rubric I will share with the students during our first class. I will also give specific written notes (feedback) to each student related to their project.

This three-day class introduces students to geography with an engaging topic: the Seven Wonders of the World.

While discovering the Seven Wonders of the World, we will also cover the following topics:

🌐the hemispheres of earth
🌐identification of the seven continents
🌐location of the Equator as well as the Prime Meridian

Students will be engaged with the material through pre-learning quizzes, minimal lecture, short videos, games, and the production of a final project which will be based upon student choice. I love learning along with the students; therefore, I welcome students' input and findings as we move through the three class meetings. Discussion and student participation helps to solidify the learning, and both will be encouraged.

Basic framework for each week:

Week 1 (1st day of class)---
🌐understanding the history of the Seven Wonders of the World (ancient examples)
🌐understanding the need for a more modern list of the Seven Wonders and how that was accomplished
🌐using Google Earth, globes, maps and their similarities and differences
🌐analyzing the best instances to use Google Earth, a globe, 𝙤𝙧 a particular type of map as we explore
🌐explore the first two "Wonders" of the world
🌐introduce and explain final project

Week 2 (2nd day of class)---
🌐practice using Google Earth
🌐review Week 1 "Wonders"
🌐explore four new "Wonders" of the world
🌐clarify any questions regarding final project

Week 3 (3rd and last day of class)---
🌐review first six "Wonders"
🌐explore the seventh and last "Wonder"
🌐each student presents their final project (detailed feedback from the teacher given within 48 hours of the last class)
學習目標
Students will learn:

🌐that the world is divided into hemispheres
🌐that there are seven continents,
🌐that the previous Seven Wonders of the World were chosen in the year 2 BC,
and
🌐the locations of the current or modern Seven Wonders of the World.

While not required, a basic understanding of how to find locations on a globe or map will be helpful.

Once a basis of understanding these concepts is established, students will use their new knowledge to analyze a variety of topics, such as:

🌐Analyzing the reasoning behind choosing each of the Seven Modern Wonders;
🌐Analyzing what type of mapping tool best fits a variety of situations;
🌐Analyzing possibilities for the 8th Wonder and creating a project to teach and convince others that their choice would meet or exceed the standards for the newest World Wonder.

1. https://earth.google.com/web/ ---The teacher will use this resource during class. Students will not be required to use it unless they choose to include it in their final project. 2. Various sources from https://education.nationalgeographic.org/ --- The teacher will use this resource during class. Students will not be required to use it unless they choose to include it in their final project. 3. Kahoot --- We will use Kahoot for checking understanding in an engaging manner. Students will need to be able to access Kahoot on a device. This often works better if the device is separate from the laptop or other device on which the student is actually taking the class. In other words, the student might have the Outschool class pulled up on their laptop or computer and Kahoot on a cell phone, iPad, etc. However, this is not necessary---I only mention this as using Kahoot on a secondary device goes a bit smoother for the student. I will send the login instructions prior to each class. 4. Nearpod--- We will use Nearpod for checking understanding in an engaging manner. Students will need to be able to access Kahoot on a device. I will send the login instructions prior to each class. 5. Canva--- My class slides are created on Canva. Students will not need to interact with Canva themselves. However, students may choose to use Canva as they present their final projects, but this is not necessary. Students will need to have an account (and set it up on their own) if they decide to present using Canva. 6. YouTube---I will select appropriate short clips from YouTube relevant to the material being explored. Students will not need an account. Students may choose to choose appropriate material from YouTube for their class presentations on the last day; however, these selections must follow Outschool guidelines.
供應清單
I will supply a pdf of a world map for students prior to the first day of class.

Students may choose to bring other resources to class such as a globe (inflatable globes are great!), resource books your student might have in their home, or any other geography-related materials. These are all optional.

For the project, I will provide a pdf of the rubric immediately after the first day of class. Students will need access to the internet or current print resources to research their chosen "8th Wonder of the World." The students will have the freedom to choose how to present their project/proposal. They may use sources available to them on the internet or computer software such as PowerPoint or Canva. They may choose to use any variety of other materials they have on hand at home (i.e. paper to make a book, poster board for a poster presentation, etc.)

I want the project to be:
1. student-centered,
2. thoughtful,
3. thought-provoking and, above all,
4. FUN!

Midway through my career, I had the privilege to become a National Geographic Educator. Held at Texas State University in San Marcos, I spent two months of that summer absorbing all that I could learn about teaching geography to students. The activities ranged from complex lectures provided by esteemed professors of geography to actual field trips around the state each weekend using National Geographic Society's tenets of excellent geography education. It is a privilege to teach others about geography in a personal and engaging manner using the various resources and skills I have learned as a National Geographic Educator.
