課堂經歷
During this class, students will explore and enhance their knowledge of specific Executive Functioning skills and various strategies that can be utilized to support their growth, development, and self-confidence. Students will learn about strategies that can be easily implemented, in various situations and environments, to support their continued development of executive functioning skills. Learner-to-learner interaction is encouraged throughout the class. The teacher will facilitate ongoing dialogue, and fun and interactive activities, as well as lecture-type slides, to help learners understand the concepts being taught. Scenario examples, videos, interactive opportunities, and other engaging materials will be utilized throughout the classes. The weekly skill-targeted areas are as follows: Oct 2- What are Executive Functions? Oct 9 - Planning and Prioritizing Oct 16 - Organization Oct 23 - Time Management Oct 30 - Task Initiation Nov 6- Working Memory Nov 13 - Metacognition Nov 20 - Emotional (Self) Regulation Nov 27 - Sustained Attention Dec 4 - Flexibility Dec 11 - Perseverance Dec 18 - "Keys to Success" activity All weekly skills areas are independent of one another, join for all or join only on a specific week. Learners do not need any previous skills or experience to participate in this class.

Materials needed "keys to success" activity: - Printer - document provided by the teacher (teacher will upload to the classroom prior to last class) - scissors - keyring (or pipe cleaner, string, or anything that can be used as a key ring)

Ms. Sheera has a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child and Youth Care and a 3-year college Diploma in Child and Youth Work. She has been creating and facilitating emotional regulation groups for over 20 years in numerous environments, such as in schools, group home facilities and community centres; and with a variety of children and youth (i.e. children and youth with ASD, ADHD, OD, CD diagnoses, as well as neurotypical children and youth).
Ms. Sheera has the following training certifications and continuously participates in professional learning opportunities:
- Behaviour Management Strategies certification
- Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) training
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification
- Mental Health First Aid certification
- Understanding and Intervening in the Cycle of Youth Violence training
- Single Sessions Counselling certification
- Courageous Conversations, Confronting Racial Discrimination and Anti-Black Racism (monthly ongoing opportunity)
- Indigenous Perspectives on Mental Health and Trauma training sessions
Ms. Sheera is also a Professional Member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care.
She is also a neurodivergent educator with ADHD.
