The personality characteristics of a small breed dog and how they influence behavior will be discussed. The AKC breed standard appearance that you would look for when purchasing a puppy if the student were looking for a show quality dog. Grooming  necessities will be taught since grooming can be extensive for some breeds. Medical conditions common to small breeds will be covered. Behavioral issues will be discussed. Students will be given tips to housebreaking their puppy with consistency. I will discuss everything you'll need to have before bringing your puppy home, including the right food for optimal health and nutrition. 

I will present the information through a lecture/discussion format, encouraging students to ask questions along the way. I’ll be using my actual adult Yorkies and puppies from my current litters on camera to demonstrate key points. Students that possibly already have a small breed dog themselves are encouraged to show their dog/puppy and ask for guidance in any area they have difficulty or questions in. I encourage discussion in this class. Students do not need any prior knowledge of small breeds or even canines in general.
