In this 18 week semester, students will learn basic language skills: sentence structure, mechanics, and parts of speech. This class is designed around 2nd grade common core literacy standards but is suitable for grades 1-3 or any older students needed a refresher on parts of speech and sentence mechanics. Each week, we will cover the topic listed in the syllabus. Students will listen to the teacher teach the skill. We will do several examples in class using Teacher Created slides/videos....
18 lessons//18 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1What is a Sentence?Students will learn that a sentence forms a complete thought. They will recognize sentences from fragments and run ons.Week 2Lesson 2Identifying SentencesStudents will continue to learn that a sentence forms a complete thought. They will recognize sentences from fragments and run ons.Week 3Lesson 3Telling SentencesStudents will learn which sentences require the use of a period.Week 4Lesson 4Asking SentenesStudents will learn which sentences require the using of a question mark.Week 5Lesson 5Exclamations!Students will learn which sentences require the use of an exclamation point.Week 6Lesson 6Categorizing NounsStudents will learn review that a noun is a person, place, or thing.Week 7Lesson 7Nouns- Singular or PluralStudents will practice sorting nouns into groups: singular or plural. We will learn rules for making nouns plural.Week 8Lesson 8Proper NounsStudents will distinguish nouns from proper nouns and will practice capitalizing them.Week 9Lesson 9Proper Nouns ContinuedStudents will distinguish nouns from proper nouns and will practice capitalizing them.Week 10Lesson 10Collective NounsStudents will practice using collective nouns to describe groups of nouns.Week 11Lesson 11Irregular Plural NounsStudents will learn irregular plural nouns.Week 12Lesson 12Irregular Plural Nouns ContinuedStudents will learn irregular plural nouns.Week 13Lesson 13PronounsStudents will use personal pronouns.Week 14Lesson 14Possessive PronounsStudents will learn how to use possessive pronouns.Week 15Lesson 15Indefinite PronounsStudents will learn how to use indefinite pronouns.Week 16Lesson 16AdjectivesStudents will practice using adjectives to describe nouns.Week 17Lesson 17Adjectives ContinuedWe will practice using adjectives to describe nouns. If we have multiple adjectives, we will use a comma to separate them.Week 18Lesson 18Review DayWe will review all the skills learned in this semester.
