Students are presented with a problem when their safari jeep breaks down. They must solve double-digit addition and subtraction word problems to get the clues needed in order to escape. Each word problem includes a fact about that animal and we will end the class with more facts so that students will walk away learning about African animals while practicing essential math skills. Students should already be familiar with regrouping between the ones and tens place when adding or subtracting in order to take this class. This class is meant to be used for practice and not as an introduction to double-digit addition and subtraction. Please make sure students have paper and pencil to work out the math problems and to write down the clues needed to escape at the end. I look forward to seeing your student on the next safari!

I am a compassionate, hands-on teacher that has spent the last 16 wonderful years teaching all the core subjects in a public school setting. My expertise is in math, science, and language arts for 2nd-5th grade. I had the privilege of working as a reading intervention specialist for PreK-5th grade students where I diagnosed reading difficulties and instructed students in small groups to master skills.
