This is an equine science self-paced course for those students who have taken our Introduction to Equine Science course or anyone who has some horse experience. Each lesson will have a recorded lesson that contains the same material as my live class meetings. Additional carefully selected YouTube video links will also safely be embedded in the classroom for more learning on the subject of the week. There will also be an optional project for learners to do to reinforce the learning. It is an overview what you may expect when caring for a mare before foaling, what happens during foaling. A video of a foaling horse will be provided, and care of the mare and foal after birth and beyond. This course is not providing medical advice. If you have medical questions about your own horses you should consult your veterinarian.
學習目標
Begin learning basic topics in the care of the pregnant mare and her foal.

其他詳情
父母的引導和規範
This course will contain photos and videos of the birthing process. Multiple videos of foals being born from start of labor to foaling will be provided. This is an important part of this course. If your learner is not ok with watching this, you may want to reconsider this course.
It is however, completely up to you if you choose to skip that week or the actual birthing videos. You may choose to watch them yourself prior to allowing your learner to watch them.
Additional warning: there will be discussion on problems a foal may have during or after birth.

I am a certified veterinary technician and have bred, raised, trained and shown horses for many years. I have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
I have been teaching at local community colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. I also teach at a private university in an equine studies program.
Along with that, I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and equine and veterinary sciences with others and look forward to helping your learner explore the possibilities!
It is exciting to share my love for horses with the next generation of equestrians!
