Students will memorize the enchanting poem "The Land of Nod" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Students will memorize the title and first two stanzas in week one. In week two they will memorize the last two stanzas. I will teach students tips and tricks on how I memorize so they can utilize those skills later when memorizing other pieces of literature. This class will be engaging and lively as we discuss the poem and the images it conveys. During the class, students will be given opportunities...
Students will memorize "The Land of Nod." Students will recite the poem aloud. Students will gain confidence in public speaking using a piece of memorized literature. Through memorization students will enhance their personal vocabulary. Memorization of poetry encourages students to be more analytical and inquisitive. Students who are still learning English are provided with a way to articulate the English language in way that is more formal and lyrical. Students will celebrate small victories when they memorize and recite a longer piece of literature.
