Students will analyze the setting, characterization, and plot structure of the following novels: "Holes" by Louis Sacher "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen This course will focus on two novels that are commonly read by students in grades 4 through 6. Students will learn Common Core skills such as quoting accurately from a text when explaining what a text says and answering comprehension questions. Students will develop their ability to use textual evidence to support their inferences regarding...
Students will improve their understanding of the literary elements that author's use to develop a plot such as: characterization, setting, symbolism, conflict, and irony. Students will identify and discuss a similar central idea for both novels.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and a Master's Degree in Students with Disabilities. I have two New York State certifications in English Language Arts and Special Education. I have been teaching in an urban setting for over ten years and specialize in assisting students with their comprehension and writing skills. I have tutored grammar school students in English Language Arts for over 10 years and assisted many students in succeeding on their English Language Arts assessments for New York State.
