Scientific drawing has largely become a lost art in our current digital age but is still considered an important tool in communicating scientific information. Using natural history specimens/objects as our source of inspiration students will learn the basics of observation; how to accurately draw physical characteristics; how to draw to scale, and various pencil and pen techniques. Students will learn the basics of scientific observation, how to draw accurately observed physical characteristics along with various pencil and pen techniques. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and skills by creating a portfolio of at least 3 scientific illustrations.
Dr. Basham has for the past five years worked with scientific institutions in 3D digitization and photogrammetry techniques of natural history specimens and has served as a scientific illustrator for various archaeological projects.
