課堂經歷
In this lab based class students will learn the basics of DNA: What is DNA? What makes up DNA? What is the purpose of DNA? How do scientists use DNA. During the class, I will begin with a short discussion using Google slides. Students do not need to have prior knowledge to participate in class. Next, students will participate in a hands-on lab where they will extract strands of DNA from different types of fruit to include strawberries, bananas, and kiwis. Materials needed for this class are listed below. Students are welcome to experiment with others types of fruit if they would like.

Fruit – 1 Kiwi, 1 Strawberry, and 1 Banana (others if wanted) 3 Quart or Sandwich Sized Zip lock bags 3 Tbs. Dish washing liquid 3 tsp. Salt Tap Water 3 Coffee filters 3 Clear plastic cups 3 Tbs. Rubbing alcohol Coffee stirrer or straw 1 Rubber band

Hi, I’m teaching all things related to science through presentations, videos, and hands on exploration! Topics include, but are not limited to biology, astronomy, chemistry, food science, ecology, renewable energy, etc.
My professional background...
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. I later went on to earn my Masters in Education from Regis University. I currently teach 6th grade science at an International Baccalaureate (IB) school in Colorado Springs. This fall, I will be entering my 14th year of teaching.

I believe that all children are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own education. I encourage my students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others. As a science teacher, I strive to inspire my students to explore their natural world through innovative and creative hands on experimentation.
Something fun about me...
When I’m not teaching, you can find me outside running! I love running races from 10K’s to half marathons! I’ve run 63 races so far and I’m currently training for my first full marathon this fall with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. 評論
