In this one time, class children will be learning about Puerto Rico's plena music, they will make their very own pandero (hand drum), and we will have storytime with the newly released children's book: Roquí's Pandero Beat by author Delia Ruiz. The class will begin with some fun facts about the music genre plena and the pandero instrument. We will have storytime and a craft session. Learners will follow prompts to craft their very own plena. This will be a fun and hands-on learning...

I am a native Spanish speaker, author, and Latina educator of Puerto Rican and Ecuadorean heritage. I have a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University del Este in Puerto Rico and a master's degree in Spanish education from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. I strive to connect culture, heritage, and Spanish language in my classes, and to provide an enriching and immersive educational experience for my learners.
The following materials are required for all of the classes: white paper plates, crayons, markers, and tape. Younger learners may need assistance with the tape.
