Do you want to redecorate your bedroom, but don't know where to start? Virtual design is where you can experiment and be creative without spending any money! Come learn how to create, decorate, and redecorate a 2D/3D model of your room using floorplanner.com. In this 90-minute class, learners will be taught the following while using a free Basic Account on floorplanner.com: 1. Create a 2D/3D model of their bedroom (or of their dream bedroom, if preferred) 2. Customize the furnishing in their 2D/3D bedroom 3. Utilize the "Magic Layout" feature to quickly redecorate their virtual bedroom in up to 19 different styles Learners will spend the first hour of class creating their designs as they follow along on floorplanner.com while I walk them through the steps to create, customize, and redecorate their virtual bedrooms. The last half-hour is reserved for learners to ask me questions and to share their designs with their classmates if they choose.

This class requires a computer or laptop with a mouse and the following two steps to be completed before the beginning of class: 1. Create a FREE Basic Account at floorplanner.com 2. On a piece of paper, sketch your bedroom shape and label each wall with its length. If you don't have a tape measure handy to measure the walls, an easy alternative is to cut a long piece of yarn, ribbon, or rope to the length of the longest wall. Then use a ruler and a marker to mark off each foot (or meter) of the yarn/ribbon/rope until you have calculated and written down the correct length. Then, you may use the same piece of yarn/ribbon/rope to repeat the process on the shorter walls in the room. Measurements may be in feet/inches or meters/centimeters.

Hello! Thank you for showing interest in my technology and design classes, or one-on-one tutoring.
Professional Experience: I have a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Texas at San Antonio and am a certified Secondary (grades 6-12) Speech Communication teacher. I have 15 years of public high school classroom experience plus 15 months of asynchronous online teaching experience. For the first 11 years of my career, I taught a semester-long course called Communication Applications, focusing on communication theory, interpersonal communication, group communication, interviewing skills, and public speaking. Then for the next six years, the Professional Communication course I taught incorporated technology and design skills, in addition to communication skills and theory. I also coached the high school's Speech & Debate Team for nine years and was the founding sponsor of the GSA (Gay-Straight-Alliance) Club for two years.
Volunteer Experience: My first assistant-teaching/mentoring experiences were with younger children at my church during my middle and high school years. I assisted with Vacation Bible Schools, planned and taught Children's Sermons, and co-taught Sunday School classes. Then, in my senior year of high school, I had a position on our Youth Ministry Council, where we planned and spearheaded three church camps for the San Antonio/Corpus Christi area high school students. While in high school, I was also an assistant dance teacher (ballet, tap, and jazz) at my local dance studio. When my daughter became a third-generation Girl Scout, I volunteered as the troop's co-leader and cookie mom for seven years. As co-leader, I taught the girls life skills like cooking, baking, applying makeup, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, goal setting, marketing, sales, customer service, and money handling.
I love to help learners step outside of their box, whether in facing public speaking fears, finding new ways to be creative, or simply learning new technology skills. I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), so I am very empathetic to learners with challenges. Since nobody is perfect, and we can always improve, my goal is for my students to aim for "progress, not perfection."
