This Decolonized U.S. History course is the first of a two-semester long course. This course should be taken concurrently with my 11th-grade Revolutionary Rhetoric English course. Throughout the first 14 weeks, students will examine primary and secondary sources from various American perspectives (i.e., Indigenous, Colonial Settler, African American, and Immigrant). In this way, we will explore our nation's origin and key political events to determine who we truly are. Live sessions take place once per week. New material (including vocabulary) will be provided during each class. Students will also learn grade-level appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills. Homework will consist of readings with text-dependent questions and short answer questions. Two original essays and a project will also be required during the course. 🎓Units of study include: 📚Unit 1- Industrialization & The Gilded Age 📚Unit 2- Progressivism, Roaring 20s, The Great Depression, and WWI 📚Unit 3- The Cold War & The Civil Rights Movement 📚Unit 4- New Conservativism & Globalization Week 1-- Intro to Industrialization & The Gilded Age Week 2-- Transcontinental Railroad; Sitting Bull & Custer (Ghost Dance Movement) Week 3-- Rockefeller and Carnegie; Ellis Island and Immigration (Workers' Rights Movement) Week 4-- Wilmington Race Riot; DuBois & Washington, Ida B. Wells-Barnett & Henry McNeal Turner Week 5-- Theodore Roosevelt (New Nationalism), John Muir (National Parks Movement) & Progressivism Week 6-- Spanish American War, Puerto Rico, & Carlisle Indian Industrial School Week 7-- Woodrow Wilson & The Birth of a Nation (Ku Klux Klan); WWI Week 8-- The Great Migration & Jacob Lawrence (Video Essay #1 Due) Week 9-- The Great Depression; FDR, The New Deal & WPA; Woodie Guthrie Week 10--A. Philip Randolph; WWII Week 11-- Korean War; McCarthy; Truman & Eisenhower Week 12--Brown v. Board of Education & School Desegregation; Civil Rights Movement; Mississippi Freedom Party; The Black Panther Party for Self Defense Week 13--Jimmy Carter; Reaganomics & Mass Incarceration; The Cold War Revisited Week 14--Clinton, Bush II, Obama, Trump, and Biden: How did we get here? Where do we go from here? (Final Reflections Due) My teaching style is interactive. I am not the sage on the stage. Instead, I am a facilitator and guide. Therefore, lecture time is limited to 20 minutes for each class period. The remaining class time is allocated to a whole-group discussion, think-pair-share, and Socratic Seminar. In this course, we learn and grow together.
學習目標
Students will learn to analyze primary and secondary sources for accuracy and reliability. They will also learn to exchange ideas deliberately and respectfully, which is lost art in contemporary times.

War images may be violent and disturbing. Discussions of the Native American wars, racism, working conditions, and global war may be unsettling. Please be sure to review the weekly course descriptions. Students who cannot attend can notify me in writing and watch the recordings on their own time.
