Students will set your own daily and weekly goals for their writing with the goal of completing your first draft in 30 days (yes, you really can produce your first draft in 30 days--editing comes later!). The initial work will be rough, but that is why is edit!評估
We will keeping track of progress on each students novel with feedback being provided along the way. No letter grade is given, but Home Schoolers should contact me if special considerations are needed.等級

Class Experience This is for Forum I of the two Forum course-it includes the first 10 classes of the 19 in this course (Students must take Forum I before Forum II) "Words are a lens to focus one's mind."- Ayn Rand This course offers students an opportunity to open up to a new world of creative exploration, and experience a new way to express themselves. Students will write a full length novel, or novella, over a period of three months, providing them a learning opportunity that is unique, memorable, and leaves them with a great reward that they can call their own. The course walks students through all the steps to create their own work of literary art. Students will write the first draft of their novel in 30 days (starting the day after Lesson 10). Prior to writing, students will be working on the development of a blueprint for their novel. All course work and in-class assignments will help the student set the stage for his/her book, so that by the time writing starts, each student has a head start on their creation. This course is designed to be fun and highly interactive with many learning opportunities while they have a great time, including: -Expanded vocabulary; -an understanding of the mechanics of Reading and Writing; -Developing cognitive growth; -Develop the power to influence others through persuasion; -Self-confidence; -Artistic Expression; and -Goal Setting and Discipline. Lessons will provide the student with an understanding of the major elements of a novel, including: -Plot, -Setting, -Character Development, -Point of View, -Theme(s) -Symbolism, -Conflict, ...and more! Classes will include lecture in-class assignments, and a lot of group discussions and feedback. This course is divided up into two Forums (1-2) with each Forum having 10 classes. Forums should be taken in order. You will need to sign up for both Forums before the entire course is complete. This gives you the benefit of spreading out the cost over four months. They culminate with a student having a finished novel and the opportunity to have it self-published. Total of 19 classes for the entire course. Forum 1 (this is the Forum 1--this is the course you are now signing up for) Lesson 1: Lesson Plan 6: Elements of Plot – Part One Lesson Plan 7: Elements of Plot – Part Two Lesson Plan 8: Setting and Mood Lesson Plan 9: Settings That Reinforce Characters Lesson Plan 10: Writing Perfect Dialogue Forum 2: 9 classes Lesson Plan 11: Beginnings-- (Start 30 days of writing) Lesson Plan 12: Sub-Plotting Lesson Plan 13: Class review of work to date. Hi, and thank you for considering one of my classes. My name is Brin Lewis, and I would like to help prepare your child for college in areas that are critical for your child's success beyond high school. It is to this end that I decided to become an educator after spending a career in business and as a political strategist in Washington, DC. I received my teaching certificate a few years ago and have been teaching English and history in public secondary schools (6-12) since. My class offerings on Outschool will include courses in American history, government, literature (including “must-read" books for college), and creative writing (students write their own novel).
I try to design my courses as cross-curricular classes providing learning in more than one academic discipline. My Declaration of Independence class, for example, is a history course, but teaches awareness of writing techniques as well. My reading classes will usually spill over into the history and/or government disciplines.
I have been fascinated with American history, government, and the writing process since grade school. I have been a frequent lecturer/speaker for various groups about the Constitution, Civil War, and slavery in America. I have also authored a number of articles about the Civil War for various publications and written a number of short stories.
I am a graduate of Michigan State University majoring in English with minors in history, political science, and economics, and have taken additional coursework in history and government from Hillsdale College.
I occupy my free time by reading, writing short stories and novellas, collecting political memorabilia, visiting Civil War landmarks, talking to groups about U.S. history, and spending time with my family.
To parents…
Having now worked inside our current public-school system I have come to understand the nearly impossible task that our very talented teachers face in preparing students to excel in their freshman year at one of our better colleges. We’ve handcuffed our teachers by limiting their ability to teach students outside the limits of designated material that prepare students for state tests. These limitations, in combination with budget reductions, mean that material that was once considered essential for a well-rounded education has either been eliminated altogether, or is skimmed over because teachers are required to cover too much material in far too little time. The purpose of all my classes is to provide students with critical knowledge that is required for them to accomplish their future educational goals. My goal is to fill in gaps in their education by focusing on subjects that help provide them with a well-rounded secondary education in areas in which I am highly knowledgeable: US history, US government, and English (writing and reading).
I make my classes entertaining, interactive and encourage student discussion allowing them to explore, agree, disagree, and form their own opinions.
I look forward to seeing your child in one of my classes!
