Learning country facts does not have to be boring! Join me in 7 mini art sessions that bring to life key country facts about Japan. We will draw, paint, cut, and paste our way through each fun fact, being creative and learning so much as we go. The end result will be a colorful display page that beautifully showcases each of the 7 facts - a great tool for retaining and recalling this newly learned information down the road.

This is a great class for students who love Japanese culture and even for those who are just beginning to study Japan and want to use this class project as an inspiration for future learning. With every one of the world culture sessions I taught over the last 8 years (pre-quarantine), I always introduced a country to my students in this way first. My students loved the creativity of each mini art lesson and were always quick to remember these facts and their meanings throughout the duration of our classes.

In this one-time class we will first cover general Japan geography and then launch right into the following country facts mini art projects: 

1. FLAG -  Students will learn the symbolism of Japan's flag, as well as the meaning of "Land of the Rising Sun". They will have a go at writing in Japanese and then color, cut out and paste on the Japan flag.
2. CAPITAL - Students will learn about the Tokyo Skytree tower, the tallest structure in Japan, and then draw a replica.
3. NATIONAL FLOWER - Students will learn about the Cherry Blossom and then paint a miniature Cherry Blossom Tree.
4. LANGUAGE - Students will illustrate how to say "Hello" in Japanese, drawing the words in a speech bubble coming from the mouths of Japanese children.
5. CURRENCY - Students will "get their hands on some yen" in this fun cut and paste activity that will display Japan's currency.
6. NATIONAL FISH - Students will learn the symbolism of the carp in Japanese culture then draw a brightly colored miniature carp flag.
7. NATIONAL DISH - Contrary to popular belief, the National Dish of Japan is not what you think! Students will learn about the true dish and then creatively replicate this dish through drawing, cutting, pasting, and their own creative genius.

BONUS! Each student will also receive a "Japan Country Facts" Concentration Game to print and play at home with the family. This game contains a total of 16 country facts including: map, continent, capital, population, flag, language, currency, leader, national flower, national food, national sport, national bird, famous landmark, famous invention, famous toy, famous holiday. This will be sent to all learners immediately after the class has finished.
