The students will be reminded about the Points of Failure at the beginning of the game--the f2 and f7 squares, because they are only guarded by the King. But as the game progresses, the students will learn that there will be new Points of Failure. They will learn that when the King castles, the Points of Failure shifts too. The students will also learn about different kinds of pawns on the board and how they can be Points of Failure: 1. Isolated pawns, which have no pawns on the adjacent...
The students will become stronger chess players as they look for the Points of Failure on the board and by playing chess games on-line.

We will be using chess.org (no log-in or username required) in our class so the students will be able to play chess against each other on-line. If your student is not familiar with the Chat box in the Zoom feature, please do a practice Zoom session with your student so that they can become familiar with this feature. They will need to be able to copy a link from chess.org and to be able to paste that link in the Chat box so that another student will be able to click on that link to play chess. They will need to go to: -chess.org, -Click on the Invite a Friend tab at the top of the chess board. -Click on the White King. -Click on Create Game. -Inside the window that pops up, click on the little black box on the right side (to save the link--it will highlight when saved) -Click on the Chat box in Zoom (located at the bottom of the Zoom screen) -A place will open up on your screen to paste that link (if using a mouse, you might need to right click on the mouse to paste it) -Press Enter to send that link to the other person you are practicing with in Zoom. -The other person will see a notification pop up in the Chat box, they will need to click on the notification and then click on the link. -The other person will see a window that says "Accept Challenge?" ( They might need to minimize their Zoom screen or have another device in order to see this challenge) They will need to click on it to accept it. -A chess board will pop up, your student will be white, they will need to click on a piece, and move it to start the game. -The other person will move a black piece and continue
The students will play against each other by using the chess.org website. The students will not be logging in to the website with a username--the students will just copy the link of a game and paste it in the Chat Box. Another student will then click on that link from their Chat Box in order to play against that student.
