Circle time was common in elementary school and teachers touch base with students; prompting them to communicate their feelings, share their lives, and set the tone for the day. This is a valuable practice that should continue throughout our lives. In this on-going social class, we will cultivate a space where we can practice our social skills and talk about our classes, our adventures, our successes & struggles, and how we're feeling. I have many years of experience leading online clubs and in the community and have learned the value of helping diverse groups communicate their feelings and find their common threads. Whether it's in the public school (general education or special), college classroom, the community group, or at work, we all need a place to feel valued and practice expressing ourselves in a healthy manner and listening, and lending support.
As a Special Education teacher, I am offering this course specifically to support and elevate students with communication and social skills challenges.
Students should be verbal, although minimally verbal is okay. We will work on our conversation and social skills together.
