課堂經歷
The class will start with introductions and listening to what the students may already know about acids and bases. Students may already know that lemon juice is an acid for example. We will introduce the terms acid, acidity, alkaline, alkalinity and base. We will talk about some well known acids and bases and why they are important in our lives. We will discuss how acids and bases are measured (pH scale) and what a pH indicator is. We will formulate hypothesis on whether everyday kitchen...

I am a science communicator of 20 years with experience teaching science concepts to children and performing experiments for demonstration purposes.
Students are welcome to just watch me perform the experiment. If they want to participate they will need the following: 1. Cabbage juice- to make it, purchase a RED cabbage (this is called red cabbage but it is actually a purple vegetable), cut into pieces and blend it with a little water. then strain the mixture to obtain a liquid that is deep purple in colour. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze. 2. A variety of common household items you would like to know if they are acids or bases- good choices may be lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda, soap, milk, water, other vegetable or fruit juices. Clear or near clear liquids work best. 3. One clear cup or glass for each of the substances you choose in step 2 4. Small pieces of paper and tape or sticky notes for labelling your cups 5. A pen
If children are doing the experiment with me, an adult should be nearby to help them with sourcing materials and pouring.
