During this class, learners will explore foods, both bland and exotic, that American colonists enjoyed (or just tolerated). Through slides I present, we will examine how native food sources, the expertise of Native Americans, and seeds carried to the colonies by enslaved Africans influenced the diet of the American colonist. Cooking spaces and methods, as well as a few recipes of the time will be highlighted. All students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas. Using a one page...
Students will practice making inferences and drawing conclusions as we examine how food sources influenced colonial meals.
I have a degree in secondary social studies education, and 14 years of classroom teaching experience, both in public schools and homeschool enrichment classes.
