This class mini serves as a sample of my Percy Jackson reading group, which will launch at the end of November. In this class, students will learn more about Greek mythology. They will begin by taking a short (just for fun) personality test to find out which god or goddess they have the most in common with. This is the god or goddess who would be their godly "parent" if they were demigods. They will then have the opportunity to learn more about this god or goddess and any others they are interested in. They will also get to hear a story about the god or goddess with whom they share the most similarity, and they will learn to write their names using the Greek alphabet, giving them a reminder of what they've learned!

I acquired the information for writing students' names in the Greek alphabet from rickriordan.com, which has a published "party kit" for parents, teachers, or bookstores to celebrate the launch of "The Titan's Curse," the third book in the series.
I obtained information about the Greek pantheon from a variety of sources. Some of it came directly from the Percy Jackson books, as the quiz and the class mini are intended to be a preview of my larger unit about Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I also referenced theoi.com, a website dedicated to providing information about Greek Mythology, and brittanica.com, an online encyclopedia.
Since this class is intended to be a preview of the class "Percy Jackson's Group for Young Demigods," I have found the stories about each of the gods in either "Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes" or "Percy Jackson's Greek Gods," both by Rick Riordan.

Hi! Thank you for taking a look at my Outschool classes! I teach a variety of classes in reading, writing, and math for K-8 students and in writing for high school students.
I've known I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I love helping other people succeed, and the moment when something goes from "hard and frustrating" to "so easy" is incredibly motivating for me. I've taught in public schools, worked as a substitute teacher, worked as a private tutor, and taught English online, but my real passion is working with individuals and small groups, because I love finding what works for a particular kid and designing lessons that can really help them succeed.
