It’s Christmas time! Help Santa prepare for Christmas! In each Christmas themed lesson, students will do a STEM challenge. They will follow the six step Engineering Design Process: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Experiment, and Improve. Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. A STEM journal will be posted to the classroom a day before the class begins. Please print the journal and bring it to class each day along with a pencil. Additional materials needed are listed below. Lesson 1: Materials needed: bendy straws, non-bendy straws, masking tape, scissors, index-cards, paper clips, 100 pennies Lesson 2: Materials Needed: coffee filter, index cards, Dixie cups, scotch tape, string or yarn, pennies, scissors Lesson 3: Materials needed: straws, pipe cleaners, small tub of water, stop watch or other timer, 9 pennies Lesson 4: Materials needed. Plastic drinking straws, pipe cleaners, scissors, craft sticks. Masking tape Lesson 5: Materials needed: 1 paper plate, 5 straws, 1 balloon, 2 skewers, 1 roll of masking tape, scissors
Parental guidance is needed for the use of scissors and glue. Please supervise your child on lesson 5 with the use of a balloon.
