課堂經歷
This flexible schedule class allows students to follow along with pre-recorded videos teaching how to bake cookies. The flexible schedule class is a great format for baking because it allows students to follow along and pause as needed. We will use a different cookie recipe each week for four weeks. Ingredients are listed in the supply list, and they will also be posted at least one week before each video is released so that you have time to purchase ingredients. Each Monday a new video will be posted. In the videos I will walk students through each step to bake cookies. We will use mixing bowls and either a hand mixer or a stand mixer, as well as an oven. Parent supervision is required during each class. We will go over some basic safety around the oven, the hand mixer and the stand mixer. Learners can complete the lesson and bake the cookies on any day that fits their schedule after the video is posted each Monday. Learners will post pictures and/or videos of their cookies in the classroom to show how they turned out. Each student will view the other students' pictures and videos, and respond to at least two of the videos/pictures. Students will comment on the differences between the final products that each learner posts. The teacher will be available to answer questions via messages or in classroom comments throughout the week, and will get back to you as quickly as possible Monday-Friday. If your cookies do not turn out quite right, learners should post a picture or video of the final product or any part of the cooking process. The teacher will help to troubleshoot, and then the student can follow along with the video instructions again and make any modifications necessary. Week 1: Christmas Sugar Cookies. We will make a basic sugar cookie. We will use a rolling pin to roll out the cookie dough, and then use cookie cutters or the rim of a cup to cut out the cookies and place on a cookie sheet. After the cookies bake and cool, we will use a mixer to make royal icing and practice piping holiday designs onto the cookies. Week 2: Fudge. We will use a microwave to make this holiday treat. We will discuss a few possible flavor add-ins. Week 3: Toffee. We will use a stovetop to make toffee. This recipe require precise timing, so be sure to watch the video carefully. Week 4: Christmas Pinwheel Cookies. In this unique recipe we will make two different types of cookie dough, then use a rolling pin to roll them out and roll them into pinwheels. We will learn how to roll and cut pinwheel cookies to maintain the swirl pattern. Week 5: Crystal Cut Candy. We will learn how to make this candy on the stove top. We will learn about some candy making basics, and learn how to know when a candy is in the soft ball stage or the hard ball stage. We will Week 6: Gingerbread. We will make this classic holiday recipe by rolling out the dough and cutting out shapes. Students can choose to make gingerbread men, cookie cutter shapes, or even walls for a gingerbread house. After completing each recipe, students will post pictures and videos of their final product. Students will then look through the other students' posts and note any differences. We will discuss what could cause differences in each students' treats, including things like altitude, cooking time, oven temperature differences, etc. We will also troubleshoot any problems that students had throughout the week.

Hello! I am so excited to teach your child. I teach preschool and early elementary reading classes, and flexible schedule cooking classes. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. I taught in Elementary Schools for 4 years before choosing to stay home with my daughters, where I spend a lot of time cooking and baking. I also spent a few months in Brazil where I taught English classes to children and adults. I love making learning fun! I look forward to seeing your child in my Outschool classroom!
