In this course, students are introduced to the structure of electrons in an atom and how two elements can form an ionic bond. Finally, students will practice creating a model of an ionic bond. Prior to class, students will complete a pre-test. The lesson will begin with a brief lecture of vocabulary and concepts, followed by an opportunity for students to practice identifying the number of valence electrons an element has. We will discuss how ionic bonds are formed, and students will practice forming ionic bonds between a metal and non-metal. Students will complete a post-test to see what they have learned. If your learner would like to take all the classes in this series, this is the recommended order of classes: Chemistry Is Elemental! Introduction to Atoms and Elements on the Periodic Table Chemistry Is Elemental! Ions and Isotopes Chemistry Is Elemental! Groups on the Periodic Table Chemistry Is Elemental! I have taught environmental science, computer science, biology, and physical science for the last 10 years.
