From Disney to Dr. Seuss, cartoonists have nurtured and developed their whimsical doodles to become established characters. Free-form doodling experiments and fun step-by-step methods will put students on their way to creating their own cartoons. This summer art camp or weekly class is perfect for kids who love manga, comics, anime or cartoons. My goal is to create a fun, creative learning environment where students can comfortably learn and share their ideas with others who also love...
Students will practice developing unique characters with distinct backstories, personalities, and visual characteristics. Students will work on developing their own drawing style, analyzing Japanese manga or anime style and American cartoons or comics. Students will learn how to use abstraction and exaggeration to create a caricature.
I teach classes on a variety of arts-related subjects:
* piano, sight-reading, song-writing;
* realistic drawing techniques;
* comic book creations & anime drawing styles;
* digital arts, Photoshop, graphic design.

I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and am a former public school art teacher. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. I've been running my own piano studio for 10+ years.
