Decades of arguments haven't solved the question of a generation... which is better, cats or dogs? Students will be introduced to debate and persuasion tactics to introduce skills useful in any field, and the class will focus on these skills, such as identifying logical fallacies, supporting/citing information, and respectfully considering other viewpoints. This class will NOT focus on formal debate protocols; students will ultimately debate the question in a respectful conversation style...
How to respectfully establish and defend their viewpoint.
In a world of misinformation and "fake news", students who can logically discuss a topic will have advantages in their education and life. Everyone must be able to express their ideas so they can be understood, my goal to is use the metaphor of pets to help students learn the skills they need in their futures.
