Have some Halloween fun while practicing word problems! Bring some candy to use for counting, dress up if you would like, and join us for Halloween themed word problems. We will be solving word problems using addition and subtraction, including unknowns in all positions. The problems include numbers to 100. The word problems include Halloween themes and fun photos. Let's solve word problems to find out how much candy we have left, or solve for the number of bats, pumpkins, or spiders. This class will be fun and interactive, using animated PowerPoint slides to demonstrate the word problems and bring some Halloween fun to math. I will have Halloween decorations in my classroom, and maybe a fun costume. Please feel free to dress up (nothing scary!). The Halloween photos used are kid friendly and not scary. At the start of class, we will briefly review the strategies we will be using to solve our word problems. We will then practice solving word problems together and enjoy some Halloween fun. My class is always interactive, where the learners have an opportunity to ask and answer questions. They are encouraged to actively participate. As some learners are very shy, I do not call upon anyone if they do not want to answer a question. I ask that they raise their hands if they would like to participate and we take turns.

Masks are welcome. However, masks should be removed for identification during the first five minutes or so of class to meet safety and privacy policies. According to Outschool policy, I will vet costumes to ensure they meet Outschool standards (secular, age-appropriate, etc.).

Hello! My name is Erin Howard. I love teaching young learners. My passion is to help your young learner gain the knowledge and confidence in their basic math skills. My math classes focus on skills such as solving word problems, learning math fact families, place value, telling time, geometry, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
I have my bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College. I have owned a home daycare, privately tutored students in math, and was a teaching assistant in college. I have taught over 8,000 classes online.
My goal is to bring fun, excitement, and passion into my classroom. It is important for young learners to be engaged, actively participate, and enjoy learning. This builds the foundation of how they will view their journey for knowledge in the future. I know I have accomplished this goal when my students continue to return to my classroom, and I see their personal improvement and how proud they are of their progress.
Outside of work, I am a mother of five children, and I have three grandchildren. My children are my pride and joy. My youngest two children are twins. They are nineteen years old and they are sophomores in college. We enjoy cooking, baking, playing with our dog, watching movies, shopping, and taking trips to visit new places.
