Whether your learner is already passionate about writing or you are looking to cultivate a passion for writing join our class! Students will have the opportunity to collaborate, build upon their pre-existing skills, and develop a deeper love for the art of writing. 

Authors at work will do best if they can already form several sentences to compose a piece of at least one or more paragraphs. Each day I will provide prompts however, it is up to the author whether they choose to use that prompt, work on something they have already been working on or come to class with their own ideas ready to create something new. Authors in this class will elaborate upon their thoughts through their writing. I want to provide learners that take this class with as much freedom of creativity as possible. I will critique, provide suggestions and meet each learner at their own ability while helping them expand upon the unique skill set they each bring with them. 

Authors who do need extra help formulating sentences are welcome to use sentence frames I provide. I am also happy to help structure graphic organizers to keep our thoughts properly assembled as we build our short stories. As we create pieces we will provide a special focus on organization and story elements such as setting, characters, plot (beginning, middle and end), conflict/climax, and resolution. We will close our class by sharing our pieces if the writer so chooses. If they choose not share, I would like to have a picture uploaded in a message to me so, that I may provide adequate feedback. I look forward to meeting your young author soon and hearing the pieces of work they share aloud!

A typical class for our creative writing camp may look as follows:
5 min- meet, greet and introduce prompt
10 min- brainstorm ideas, use graphic organizers if needed to plan out story
20 min- write/edit 
5 min- share out/closing

Examples of ideas for writing that may be suggested:
Prompt: You are walking through the forest when one of the trees starts talking to you. What does it say? What do you do?
Prompt: Write about a famous person and why you admire them. OR  "I looked out the window and couldn’t believe what I saw…"
Prompt: Write about a time you gave something of yours to someone who needed it? What did you do?
Prompt: Your little brother seems to know how to disappear and then quickly reappear when he is needed. How does he do this? Will he teach you to do this, too?

Materials needed: 
-paper (lined or not! Though lined will help to keep our sentences aligned.) 
-a writing utensil (pencils preferred)
