If you feel your learner is behind on the essay writing process or just needs to be walked through each step of building the perfect essay, this is truly the class they need. I have been teaching English Language Arts for 22 years, and my forte is in helping learners become better writers and help them to organize their thoughts and guide them to create meaningful and academically strong essays. We will be working on a 4-paragraph essay, with student choice on topics that meaningful to them. Day 1-The Brainstorming process and working with an outline Day 2- Building the perfect Introduction, including powerful attention-getters, background information, and a thesis statement Day 3- Organizing and building body paragraphs Day 4- Writing the conclusion and learning tools that can help them proofread and edit their essays *Note: If learners need help citing sources or using MLA style, I will provide helpful handouts that cover those topics. I also have a one-time Mastering the MLA Citations class that is super beneficial or a three-day camp The Ultimate MLA Camp: Citing Sources and Creating a Works Cited Page. For this particular essay, I will talk about citing sources, but we will be writing about topics that they already have prior knowledge about and don't need to be using specific sources to write the essay. My focus is more on the organization and building blocks of creating a SOLID essay to increase learner confidence in their writing skills.

I have been teaching literature and writing to teens for over 25 years. I hold Bachelor’s Degrees in English, Writing, and Secondary Education, as well as a current teaching license. In 2005, I earned a Master’s Degree in Education and continue to take professional development courses annually to refine my teaching practices and stay current with educational trends and new teaching methods. Alongside my work with pre-teens and teens, I am also an English professor at the university level, where I teach writing and literature courses.
During my 21 years as a high school English teacher, I was proud to help our sophomore students consistently achieve the highest reading and writing scores in the state. My teaching approach focuses on building a strong foundation by breaking the writing process into small, manageable steps. I am super patient and encouraging with my feedback and guidance, ensuring students feel supported and confident as they grow in their writing abilities.
