課堂經歷
Is your child excited about the holidays? Come have fun with a winter/holiday themed story and build with other brick builder friends! We'll unlock some holiday/winter creativity by building with bricks as we enjoy time to talk, engage with the book, and share our creations! We'll begin each class with a story time, please see schedule below. Drawing on my expertise as a classroom teacher and elementary school librarian, I work hard to capture your child's attention with our story! I love drawing children into the book with my enthusiastic read aloud style. As we read, I always like to add in some reading skills like making predictions, connections, and responding to the story. Learners will have time to interact with the story through discussion as they begin working on their creations. After the story, your child will share with others about their favorite part and we'll work together to retell the story with teacher guided questions about the story. We'll then brainstorm ideas on what to build from the story or related to the holidays. Learners will build and interact with others brick builders to share ideas and help each other. This is a great way for your learners to work on their social skills and oral communication skills. Depending on the age range and size of the class, breakout rooms may be used during our building time. As the class finishes up, we like to gather back together to share about our creations. This gives us a time to ask questions and give comments about each others' builds. Some builders may finish in the given time, whereas others may not. I always encourage learners to share whatever they have made if they would like to show our class. Learners are not required to share. If you learner wants to post a picture on our class page that's always fun too and can be a way for them show it especially if they didn't quite finish their creation. Please message me if you would like to request a new time/day. If you have a homeschool group, co-op learning group, or are a charter school looking to have just your own set of learners, please let me know and I can work to set that up for your group. Read alouds are a vital part of a child's development and a wonderful way to engage learners in the reading process. As an experienced classroom teacher and elementary school librarian, with a Master's in Reading, I love to captive students with wonderful pictures books. I love to incorporate skills like predictions, connections, and summarizing when doing read alouds so learners connect to the text. Adding in the element of building, allows your child to use his/her creativity to build something related to the text and our holiday theme. Fostering the love of creativity and reading are two of my passions and I hope your child will find this course a fun winter favorite!
