This class will explore the development of a key part of Neuroscience during the 19th century, beginning with the first discoveries about human nerves, and discussing the advancements in microscope technology and histological staining techniques (as well as the scientists involved in the process) that eventually allowed neurons to be observed, and later described as the basic functional unit of the brain and the nervous system. Students will learn about the development of methods to study the cells of nervous system. Students will learn that scientific evidence is required to support or refute a theory.
