In this one-time class we will explore specific optical illusions (stereograms, illusionary motion, literal illusions etc.) and learn how they work. We will also work with some of these optical illusions, allowing students the opportunity to annotate on the screen and work as a group to discuss what is going on in the picture. With each illusion, we will learn how certain patterns, colors and images are arranged in particular ways that "trick" our brains into seeing something that is not...
Students will learn about optical illusions and gain a basic understanding of how our brains tend to process different images and why those images are sometimes distorted. They will learn communication skills and practice critical thought as they express what they are seeing. They will learn how to create their very own basic optical illusion.
White paper, black pen/marker, pencil, crayons, colored pencils or markers and a straw.
Scissors will be used so parents to need to make sure the children are able to safely use them.
