Introductions: We will begin class by introducing ourselves to our fellow bouncy ball scientists. Discussion: What is a bouncy ball? How is it made? What is a polymer? What is a monomer? Each week we will discuss and review these questions and the science behind how a bouncy ball is made. Bouncy Ball Specific Discussion: Each week we will discuss the specific bouncy ball we are making. Do the ingredients change the bouncy ball? What happens when we add different ingredients to our bouncy...
Learners will improve their knowledge of how polymers work. Learners will improve their scientific vocabulary. Learners will improve their skills in listening and following directions.
Please have these supplies on hand as they can be used for any of the classes. Specific supplies for specific class days will be posted in the classroom upon enrollment. Borax (found in laundry aisle) White school glue Florescent glow in the dark paint (Elmer’s glow in the dark glue can be used to save some steps) Cornstarch Water Food coloring Glitter Rubber bands Measuring spoons Measuring cups Bowls Paper towels Rubber gloves (especially for kids with sensitive skin)
Borax is used for most of these recipes. Borax is toxic if ingested. Grown up supervision is required.
