We will review the elements of poetry and the vocabulary used to study poems in middle school English classes grades 6-9. We will also look at two common formats used to help students analyze poems and decide which format works best for each student's individual learning style. We will practice by analyzing the two practice poems in break-out groups. Next, we will discuss with the whole group which elements and vocabulary were especially helpful and which were challenging. Practice poems: There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale Sonnet 18 By William Shakespeare
