In this class, we will read a book once a week, and discuss the appropriate comprehension strategies for that text. Students will be encouraging to share feedback and responses to text, and learn to think and respond like a reader. Having these group conversations and sharing opinions will build a love for reading along with increases a students' ability to articulate thoughts and opinions. I will begin the class by introducing the book, and building interest in the text. I will then give a short lesson to discuss the main comprehension skill that we will focus on, and then while I am reading, I will be stopping to ask questions. I will end the class by asking students' opinion of the text. 2/23 - We will read The Smart Cookie and we will look at the plot elements of the text as well as make connections to the text. 3/1 - We will read The Sour Grape, and we will discuss how to use context clues to determine the meaning of words in context.

All learners are welcome. This class is a low-pressure and enjoyable class that is centered around an engaging read aloud and conversation. Great for students with varying needs!

Teaching children how to read is my passion. I believe making learning fun and building a love for learning. My goal is for my students to increase their confidence and become more willing to take risks in order to learn from their mistakes. I believe the greatest thing we can do for a child is help them grow a passion and excitement for learning.
