課堂經歷

*** Learners will need a copy of the books. ***
*** Read-A-Loud Books are available through YouTube.com ***
*** Food and beverages are permitted unless it becomes a distraction ***
*** The recap is a comprehensive class in a social setting ***

"Living books possess a narrative style that sparks curiosity and immerses children in the subject matter, making learning an enjoyable and memorable experience. While great books offer a wealth of knowledge and intellectual rigor, living books bring the subjects to life, creating an emotional connection and fostering a deeper understanding."

In this class, students can enjoy an interactive book discussion with a focus on female trailblazers from the 1900's, participate in a discussion, and express themselves. There will be one book read per class. I will provide slides to facilitate the learning process. This literary club is for everyone interested in learning about female trailblazers:

Gyo Fujikawa

Paula Young Shelton

1. Students will be given a vocabulary guide to help prepare.

父母的引導和規範
Dear Parents, The purpose of this book club is to foster a love for learning and reading living books. I chose the topic of trailblazers because many learners have excited to learn about American history from various perspectives. These books are a springboard that families can use to start a conversation about these topics. Students are expected to read or listen to books prior to class. Please be aware that the subject of skin color, discrimination, segregation, and racism are concepts mentioned in the books. To help learners understand the reading material, I provided a vocabulary guide. This guide is administered to students before the start of class. In the past, I have used a similar guide on Outschool to explain these concepts to children as young as three. It is helpful for parents or caregivers facilitate this learning process by encouraging learners to look over the vocabulary guide BEFORE class. We are going to be talking about topics that may stir up emotions, memories, and feelings. As an ESL teacher, former homeschool educator, and certified teacher, I provide an unbiased perspective. I have had the privilege to read personal narratives, interview and speak with authors, historians, and an information scientist about these specific topics in American history. I would love for you to talk to your child about their own race, ethnicity, and your own experiences. Usually, this helps students ease into the conversation. Best, Teacher Elaine

I am an experienced educator who brings cultural diversity into the classroom for enrichment and to broaden our understanding. During my university days, I had the opportunity to work as a peer counselor to Asian, Black, and Native American students. The cross-cultural training I received incorporated the West Indian, Hispanic, and Latino cultures. In addition, I have worked for several Asian corporations in the hospitality and educational industries. As a result, I have worked, traveled, and researched a variety of cultures.

As an ESL teacher, former homeschool educator, and certified teacher, I provide an unbiased perspective. I have had the privilege to read personal narratives, and interview and speak with community leaders, historians, family, and an information scientist about these specific topics in American history. I would love for you to talk to your child about their race, ethnicity, and experiences.
