Mercy Watson to the Rescue is the first book in the beloved Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo.
**Books do not have to be read in order

In this book club, learners will have the opportunity to read and discuss Mercy Watson to the Rescue, a humorous and heartwarming story about a lovable pig with a big appetite and a talent for finding adventure!

During our sessions, learners will participate in teacher-led in-depth discussions and activities related to the assigned chapters. Our engaging discussions will encourage learners to ask questions, make connections, and provide their input throughout, allowing them to dive deeper into the story, explore its themes and characters, and gain valuable insights from others’ perspectives. To enhance our discussions, I will use slides to display the discussion questions and other relevant visual aids. These slides will help learners engage with the material in a more interactive and meaningful way.

We will cover the book over three sessions. To prepare for each class, learners will be asked to read four chapters and complete journal discussion activities that will be posted in the classroom after our first meeting. These activities will allow learners to reflect on the story and share their insights during our sessions.

Before each meeting, learners will know exactly which chapters to read:

Before our first session, read chapters 1–4.
Before our second session, read chapters 5–8 and complete journal activities #1 and #2.
Before our final session, read chapters 9–12 and complete journal activity #3.

This book club is a fantastic opportunity for your child to sharpen their reading comprehension skills, gain insights from others’ perspectives, and have fun reading this unforgettable story. Learners will need a copy of the book Mercy Watson to the Rescue by Kate DiCamillo.
A PDF file of journal discussion activities will be attached to the classroom after our first meeting. Please print or use a separate sheet of paper for responses.
